Life Outside the Classroom
Often when we have holiday breaks people love to travel and see all the different European wonders that are just a hop skip and a jump away. The longer I have lived here the more I have come to enjoy staycations and exploring the beautiful country I live in.
In October for Fall break I did just that and hopped on a train with some friends and went for a 15km stroll through the Czech countryside.
In
November I ventured out a little further and travelled to the UK with 6 of my team members for a TeachBeyond retreat in Horsham, England. TeachBeyond members serving in Europe gathered together for a weekend of relaxation and connecting with other missionaries serving with TeachBeyond. I took the opportunity of the sunny day to explore London with some ladies who serve in the UK and in Romania.
Let it Snow!
We got a good dump of snow at the beginning of December. Unfortunately it didn't stay long but we enjoyed the beauty it brings while it was here.
Christmas Traditions
So I got to my trip to the Dresden Christmas markets with my friends the Mobleys again this year and we made our way through the crowds and enjoyed our traditional market adventures.
Christmas in Prague
I spent Christmas in Prague again this year and enjoyed the company of friends and good food. More time visiting and playing games than taking pictures this year oops. But I did manage to go out into the city on the Christmas tram and catch the traditional city lights.
There is Light in the Darkness
On December 21st Prague experienced tragedy that shocked the nation. A mass shooting took place at the Charles University Art Faculty Campus in the downtown. 14 people lost their lives and dozens were severely injured. The gun man was a 24 year old college student. It was an isolated incident but it has been unsettling for the country as this rarely happens in Europe on such a big scale. The country had a day of mourning on the 23rd leaving a feeling of hopelessness already in a country that is wrapped in darkness. However, we cling to the truth and the promise that the light has come. May the light of Jesus shine bright this Christmas season as the truth of his saving grace is shared. That the hope that is found in the son may be made known to the nations.
