My goal is to blog at least once a month but this year has steamrolled me somewhat and I've had quite the time trying to keep up. So here is a recap of events since January:
100th Day
In February we had our annual celebration of completing 100 days of school. The entire elementary participated in fun games and activities all centred around our 100 day mile stone.
Science Week
In March we were visited by a team of high school students from Texas who lead a bunch of science activities with our students. They experimented with liquid density, bridge building, air pressure, and buoyancy. Fun was had by all!
Miss Shafer
For March and April we were joined by our student teacher from Cairn University for 7 weeks. She did a great job with the kids and we had a lot of fun learning about Balance and Motion and Poetry from her. We even went on a bowling field trip to learn about rolling.
Insect Exploration
For the rest of this quarter we are learning about insects. I have a love/hate relationship with this unit as it involves bringing creepy crawlies into the classroom; but the fascination of the students in these little creatures makes it worth it. Insects are not cuddly and cute but by the way the kids treat them you would think they are just as lovable as puppies!
We watched meal-worms change into beetles. God's creativity is fascinating especially when it come to metamorphosis. It never ceases to amaze me how these little worm-like creatures can change into beetles. Every time I take a closer look at God's creation I have no doubt that there is a great designer behind every living thing. The students get to discover God's creativity and masterfulness in each little creature we study and their awe and enthusiasm is inspiring.

Swim Camp
Swim camp is a four day excursion where we take the kids to a local pool for lessons and fun. Last year we took them all day. Due to some unforeseen circumstances we were only able to do half days at the pool so we supplemented with short day trips in the morning, including a trip to a nature park, aquarium, and jump park. I came down with a nasty chest infection and was out for the jump park day but participated in the rest of the fun.

Now we are on the final stretch. Last two weeks of school! Hard to believe this Friday we will be in June! Pray that we finish well! This is the time when the battle rages the most. Those last moments with the kids before many of them scatter to other parts of the world. Some will come back and others will move on to a new adventure in their life journey. Pray for the seeds that have been planted. Many of my students this year come from a variety of religious backgrounds and it has been exciting to see them grow not only in stature but understanding of who God is and what it means to have a relationship with Him.
